Is metadata something the IT team should handle?

Answered

Who at the station should be responsible for managing program metadata?

  • Metadata isn't something that can be handled by your IT team. In fact, metadata touches virtually every workflow at a public media station, so eventually, you may want to involve every department that has a hand in creating, using, or distributing metadata.

To determine the right metadata strategy for your station, you will need to consider how metadata enters your organization, who engages with it, and where it goes, starting with when the content is acquired or greenlit for distribution. The Metadata Co-op offers several tools to help stations get started on the metadata journey.
